When “Prison Break” ended its four-season run on May 15, 2009, it felt as if the story of Michael (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Scofield (Dominic Purcell) had reached its conclusion.

What began as an elaborate mission of breaking Lincoln out of lockup culminated in the Season 4 reveal that Michael died. Fans never expected a return to the story, yet eight years later, “Prison Break” is gearing up for an epic return to FOX.

Why would Michael lie about his death? That is obviously the big mystery Lincoln pursues in the Season 5 premiere. The exclusive featurette above gives further insight into the show’s new dynamic, and what fans should expect once the series returns.

“I think that there’s a rediscovery that needs to happen, as far as Michael and Lincoln: Who they are now versus who they were,” Wentworth Miller says in the clip. “In the original, Michael was the one with the plan. Now, Michael’s a question mark.”

While we don’t expect to see Lincoln tattooing the schematics of this Yemen prison on his body anytime soon, it seems his escape plan will rely on getting the band back together. And yes, that includes Theodore “T-Bag” Bagwell (Robert Knepper).

This new terrorist storyline will probably throw many hurdles their way, but Michael and Lincoln’s brotherly bond will always be the show’s strength.

“One of the greatest gifts that ‘Prison Break’ offers is this unique relationship between the two brothers,” says Dominic Purcell. “These two guys would die for one another.”

“Prison Break” premieres Tuesday, April 4, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
