Reel TV: 'DC's Legends of Tomorrow' Will Get All 'Back to the Future'-…

When it comes to superheroes on the big screen, Marvel is clearly leading the pack. They were ahead of the whole cinematic universe curve and DC Comics has been trying to play catch up ever since. On the small screen, though, DC Comics is easily outpacing Marvel Television. They’ve got four shows on one network (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) that are now all playing in the same story sandbox. If you’re into these heroes, it’s kind of geek nirvana right now.

And now one of the shows is going to hit maximum geekiness, all thanks to George Lucas.

No, the Star Wars creator isn’t suddenly going to start directing a TV show. He is, however, apparently so fundamental to the identity of two of the show’s characters that they have to go back in time and save him so they can save themselves. Hey, we said it was geeky.

The gist is that two of the heroes on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow owe their existence to Lucas. Star Wars inspired Ray Palmer to become an engineer, eventually becoming The Atom. Raiders of the Lost Ark inspired Nate Heywood to become a historian, leading him to become Citizen Steel. But when the show returns after its winter break, a time travel accident is going to lead to George Lucas dropping out of film school, causing the Legends of Tomorrow to go back in time to the ’70s to convince him to direct again so they can save two of their own members.

Basically, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is going to do Back to the Future, only instead of Marty McFly making sure his parents hook up, it’s a group of superheroes making sure George Lucas directs Star Wars. Again, we said it was geeky. And we kind of love it.
