So what are the odds we’ll see Katherine Pierce again before the end of ‘TVD?’
The final season of “The Vampire Diaries” has pulled out all the stops as far as relationships, deaths, and villains are concerned. You can’t really get any bigger than battling the devil himself (kind of) and a mission from hell — literally.
We’re still trying to wrap our heads around the hell part, but in the meantime, there’s been another big question worming its way into our heads ever since Alaric’s (Matt Davis) spunky intern, Georgie (Allison Scagliotti) bit the big one. The poor girl got sucked into a black void of darkness after spending a few extra moments on earth as a spirit, and Seline (Kristen Gutoskie) was kind enough to explain exactly what that meant: A one way trip to Cade’s (Wolé Parks) hell.

But did Georgie’s death look at all … familiar to anyone else?
For the answer to that, we’ve got to dig way back into Season 5, when the dearly departed soul of Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev) was dragged off into a very similar black void.
“We don’t say anything religious like Heaven or Hell,” then executive producer Caroline Dries commented on Katherine’s ambiguous death, “But that’s the implication — she’s going to a dark world.”
We think we can pretty definitely say now that said “dark world” is probably where Cade comes from and where poor Georgie got sucked into.
Hell, as it turns out, isn’t other people — it’s a psychic dimension ruled by an ancient witch. Go figure.
Now that Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) are minions of the devil on a year-long plan to doom damned souls to an eternity in hell, we’ve got to wonder — what are the odds we’re going to see Katherine again before all is said and done on “The Vampire Diaries?”
There’s been much speculation (much, much, much speculation) about whether or not Nina Dobrev will return for the series finale of “The Vampire Diaries” now that the end is nigh. While there’s been no official confirmation from The CW, showrunner Julie Plec has remained cryptically optimistic about the likelihood of the former leading lady’s return.

Most fans are desperate to see Dobrev pop back in for the inevitable Delena reunion, but we’re more interested in whether or not she’ll have time to give our girl Katherine Pierce some last minute love as the series draws to a close. Even though Katherine was kind of a “comes and goes” type of character on the show for the first five seasons (we can’t all have Tatiana Maslany’s inexhaustible ability to portray a dozen different characters at once), she is undeniably an integral part of the show’s DNA.
If Dobrev manages to squeeze “The Vampire Diaries” into her schedule, we’ve got to believe that the Mystic Falls gang is going to head to hell for their final adventure — and run into the fiercest vampire to ever rock a pair of stilettos. Pretty please?
“The Vampire Diaries” returns Friday (Jan. 13) at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
