‘Supernatural’s’ new threat is way more than ‘an accent in a pant suit’
In its Season 12 return, “Supernatural” added a new flair to The CW’s long-running genre show and it came in the form of “an accent in a pant suit.” Those words, taken directly from Sam Winchester’s (Jared Padalecki) mouth, are very fitting of Lady Antonia Bevell (Elizabeth Blackmore) and Ms. Watt (Bronagh Waugh)… at least, on the surface.
Season 11 ended on a multi-layered cliffhanger which found Dean (Jensen Ackles) transported back in time to reconnect with his — back from the dead — mother. Renewing the show’s creed, “Family Business,” Mary Winchester (Samantha Smith) finds herself back in the hunting game in world she doesn’t understand.

While watching her marvel over modern technology — a little bonding with Castiel (Misha Collins) on untrustworthy computers is always fun — could become a tired twist to tread, thankfully, the majority of Thursday’s (Oct. 13) premiere episode, “Keep Calm and Carry On,” focused on the new threat the brothers are facing.
Remember how Sam was shot at the end of Season 11? That was Lady Antonia’s doing and throughout Thursday’s episode, we find out just how no-nonsense the British sect of the Men of Letters truly are. Looking as if they run a tight ship, almost presenting their world of monsters as its own frightening police state, Antonia takes Sam to a rundown barn — we think it’s a barn, at least — where he is tortured, with the help of one Ms. Watt.
Watt doesn’t even seem human, taking a blowtorch to Sam’s foot like it’s no big deal, but it turns out she is mortal. After a pretty epic fight scene that had Dean on the ground and Castiel spitting blood, Watt — brass knuckles, and all — was dispatched by Mother Winchester herself.

As for Sam though, things don’t look good. We’re not quite sure where these visions are coming from, but we have a feeling Antonia can’t keep him locked away forever. And why is he locked up? It’s obvious their methods of torture won’t work. He’s not going to give up any secrets involving God, Lucifer or the Darkness. Is Lady Antonia biding her time or has she quickly run out of moves?
Heck, shouldn’t she be trying to work with these American Men of Letters instead of picking a fight? Whatever way this goes, something tells us Lucifer (Rick Springfield) is going to appear sooner than later to turn these enemies into friends. After all, who better to bring a team together than the ultimate evil, himself?
“Supernatural” airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
