Set your DVRs, Soap Stans: Vanessa Marcil is scrubbing back into General Hospital.
The brunette vamp will return to Port Charles to reprise her role as Brenda Barrett on the sudster later this summer, ABC daytime producers squealed on Monday.
“I feel so lucky to continue to be allowed to visit General Hospital and honor where I came from,” says Marcil, who won a 2003 Daytime Emmy Award for her portrayal of Brenda. “I am humbled by these great people and a character that I truly love.”
Brenda was last seen in Port Charles seven years ago, when Jax left her at the altar because he saw her kissing Sonny — she left town to mend her broken heart and has been mentioned on the show recently as living abroad. The character is harboring a dark secret and returns at a time when the three most important men in her life – Sonny (Maurice Benard), Jax (Ingo Rademacher), and Jason (Steve Burton) — are all in crisis.
Sounds juicy!
“Fans can now rejoice, Vanessa is returning to ‘General Hospital.’ True to form, Brenda arrives in Port Charles with a secret that will impact Sonny, Jax, and Jason,” said Brian Frons, president, daytime, Disney/ABC Television Group.
GH executive producer Jill Farren Phelps added: “‘General Hospital has always been dedicated to the strong history of our characters. Fans and viewers alike will be thrilled with her storyline and will agree that her return was worth waiting for. We are so thrilled to welcome Vanessa Marcil home to ‘General Hospital.’ Vanessa is a wonderful, talented actress and her portrayal of Brenda makes her a force of nature in Port Charles.”
Vanessa — who has enjoyed small roles on primetime shows like Beverly Hills, 90210, Las Vegas, and Lipstick Jungle — returns to daytime Wednesday, Aug. 11.
