Great Scott! Back to the Future will be getting a limited theatrical re-release at cinemas across the US next month in celebration of the film’s 25th anniversary.
AMC Theaters is hosting two special screenings of the digitally-remastered sci-fi/comedy classic — which stars Michael J. Fox as a teen who travels back in time with the help of a Deloren Time Machine, built by Christopher Lloyd’s Doc Brown — on 158 screens across 40 cities. (Check your local film listings for locations…)
The screenings are set for Saturday, Oct. 23 @ 12.30 PM and Monday, Oct. 25 @ 7 PM. As Back to the Future fans may recall, the Monday showing holds special significance: It’s the date Marty McFly (Fox) first traveled back from 1985 to 1955.
Moviegoers who attend the screenings will receive a limited edition full-size poster to mark the 25th anniversary and special prize giveaways will take place prior to the movie.
Back to the Future was the highest-grossing movie of 1985 and went on to inspire two sequels and a ride at Universal Studios. The film also starred Crispin Glover, Elisabeth Shue, Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings Trilogy), Mary Steenburgen (The Proposal), and Lea Thompson (Caroline in the City).
In related news, the film begins a two-week re-release run in the UK this Friday just a few weeks ahead of its Blu-ray debut on Oct. 25.
