Futurama’s back in a big way.
The animated cult comedy scored record ratings when it returned to the tube for the first time in six years (thanks to a new deal with Comedy Central) last Thursday night.
Futurama was tied for most-watched program on all of TV for adults 18-49, averaging 2.9 million viewers, Nielsen Media Research said Monday. It was was the highest-rated show among men 18-24 and men 18-34. In addition, the series helped Comedy Central snag its highest-rated night of the year and the highest-rated Thursday primetime in the history of the network.
Last week’s premiere was the first original episode of Futurama on TV since 2003, when the Matt Groening/David X. Cohen series was cancelled after a four season stint on FOX.
