Ice-T got some very cool news in a Manhattan courtroom Tuesday — his July charges for driving with a suspended license and no seatbelt have been dismissed.
Accompanied by wife Coco and the couple’s dog, the rapper-turned-actor, 52, was traveling into Manhattan via the Lincoln Tunnel for a vet appointment last month when the mirror of his SUV brushed against a police cruiser sitting at a random checkpoint, prompting the officer to try to pull the performer over.
The star allegedly kept going, so the cop ran up to his Cadillac Escalade and banged on its tinted window to get Ice to pull over. When he did, police said they discovered he had been driving with a suspended license, had no valid insurance and was not wearing a seat belt. Ice was handcuffed and taken to a police station, where he was given a desk-appearance ticket and released.
During Tuesday’s court appearance, prosecutors in Manhattan said Ice-T’s license had never been suspended and blamed the misunderstanding on a New York Department of Motor Vehicles clerical error, The New York Post reported.
“That’s what I’m talking about!” the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star bellowed to fans as he walked out of the courtroom.
“Dismissed!” he told fans and defendants as he left. “Like I said from the gate, I never broke the law,” he told reporters outside the courthouse. “I never had knowledge of any suspension. That’s why I got so angry when they put me in handcuffs.”
