Jersey Shore’s resident “Lindsay Lohan Wannabe” Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is breathing easier this afternoon after she was sentenced to two days of community service and a $533 fine in exchange for a guilty plea to a charge of annoying beachgoers in her Seaside Heights stomping ground earlier this summer.
Snooki was back in front of the cameras Wednesday, appearing in a New Jersey courtroom where a judge accused her of “acting like a Lindsay Lohan wannabe” when she was busted in July for disorderly conduct and being a public nuisance.
The diminutive MTV star, 22, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in the incident, just moments before Seaside Heights Judge Damien Murray handed down his verdict. Of course, no sentencing is complete without a thorough hazing courtesy of the court. The justice wondered aloud if Snooki’s actions were scripted for an episode of her hit cable series and urged the popular reality soap starlet to decide if “it was worth trading your dignity for a paycheck.”
“You seem to be acting like a Lindsay Lohan wannabe,” Murray retorted. The tough-talking judge added that he feared the reality star was becoming “rude, obnoxious, and self-indulgent.”
“Going through life rude, profane, obnoxious and self-indulgent — it’s not the way you want to live your life and hopefully this incident will impress upon you that there are consequences to your actions,” Judge Murray cautioned.
Snooki’s attorney — Raymond A. Raya — acknowledged that Snooki had been drinking and was shooting scenes for the show when she tripped some beachgoers on the afternoon of Friday, July 30. Earlier that day, Polizzi had been seen drinking heavily and falling off a bicycle. Snooks showed little remorse for her public drunkeness in the days following her arrest. She even told MTV News she was “too pretty” for jail and did not understand why “people are taking it so seriously.”
The reality star was singing a different tune on her day in court.
“I would definitely like to apologize to anyone who was hurt,” she said. “When I saw what happened and everyone told me what happened, I was very embarrassed. I’ve never been in this situation before, and I’m very sorry.”
After the hearing, Polizzi took to her Twitter page to express relief over her sentencing: “Ah never again! So scary…Thank you judge for understanding, I’m very thankful for that! Whew…now I can breath!”
