Outlaw, a struggling Friday night legal drama starring LA Law alum Jimmy Smits, is expected to succeed FOX’s Lone Star and My Generation on ABC as the third freshmen series of the fall season to receive the axe after NBC stopped production on the show on Wednesday due to low ratings.

The most recent episode drew only 4.7 million viewers and had a 1.0 rating in the key demographic of adults age 18-49.

The network plans to air the five episodes it already has taped and may resume shooting the series if the show’s rating rise over the next few weeks, TV Guide said Thursday.

In the show, Smits plays US Supreme Court Justice Cyrus Garza, who leaves the bench to open his own law firm catering to high-profile clients.
