NBC is pulling the plug on Outlaw, a critically-panned legal starring TV vet Jimmy Smits, due to low ratings, network bosses confirmed on Monday.
Production was halted last week after the show — in which Smits starred as US Supreme Court Justice Cyrus Garza, who abandoned the bench to open a law firm — consistently performed poorly with viewers. The series has since been removed from NBC’s Friday-night lineup and moved to Saturdays, where the final four episodes will run through Nov. 13.
The failure is unfamiliar terrority for Smits. The actor has appeared in a host of successful small screen hits, including NYPD Blue, The West Wing, and LA Law.
Outlaw will be replaced by the return of the second hour of Dateline.
