Sarah Palin’s political ambitions are cutting the former Alaska governor’s days as a reality TV darling short.

Sarah Palin’s Alaska, the Republican rock star’s popular travelogue series, is unlikely to return to TLC for a new season, Entertainment Weekly has learned.

Palin’s possible run for The White House in 2012 has been the subject of banter around The Watercooler for months. If she were still doing the show when she became a candidate, TLC would have to offer her rivals equal time to avoid a conflict of interest, the trade paper points out. Palin remains popular with the conservative right although polls suggest few Americans believe she’s qualified to run the country.

Palin’s Alaska debuted to 5 million viewers last fall, impressive for a show on cable TV. It wraps up its first season with a two-hour finale this Sunday.
