Mel Gibson’s cinema comeback will have to wait an additional six weeks.
The troubled Oscar winner suffered another blow Monday when producers with Summit Entertainment announced plans to push back the release date for The Beaver, an art imitating life-style feature in which Gibson plays a depressed man who finds his salvation in a puppet. The Beaver was temporarily shelved when Mel hit the headlines last summer in the midst of domestic scandal with his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva. The drama was previously scheduled to open nationwide on April 8, but after this latest delay, won’t hit theaters until May 20.
The announcement comes just a week after an advanced copy of the feature mysteriously disappeared from Gibson’s mailbox as it was waiting to be picked up by a courier.
The Beaver, which was directed Jodie Foster, will still premiere at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Texas next month.
