Insert Sighing….Do we really need a revamped version of The Bodyguard?
Warner Bros. Pictures has commissioned screenwriters Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer to pen an update of the 1992 film, which starred Kevin Costner as a Secret Service agent who falls in love with the popular singer — played by Whitney Houston in her big screen debut — he’s hired to protect.
The remake will reportedly center on a Iraq War veteran who is tapped to look after a rising female music star. With social networking sites like Twitter, Google Maps, and blogs (Guilty as Charged) making tracking the movements of celebrities as easy as checking email, he finds his client’s life in even more danger.
The Bodyguard grossed more than $400 million at the international box office when it was released 18 years ago. The film also spawned a best-selling soundtrack album, which featured Whitney’s rendition of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You.” The ballad spent 14 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
Casting suggestions anyone?
