The latest creation from the animation giants at Pixar has dominated the summer box office, grossing in excess of $940 million to overtake Shrek 2 as the high-grossing animated movie in cinema history. It’s been eleven years since Toy Story 2 graced the big screen and fifteen years since filmgoers were introduced to “Andy’s Toys” way back in 1995.
Toy Story 3 topped the US and UK box office this summer as fans flocked to cinemas to watch the latest adventure of Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen). In the third installment of the hit franchise, Andy is all grown up and getting ready to head to college. When Andy’s favorite toys get mistakenly donated to a local daycare center, Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the gang discover that the toys at Sunnyside don’t play so nice.
Shrek 2 had held the title of biggest grossing animation movie since its release in 2004, when it too over $919 million during its theatrical run. Toy Story 3 has also taken the crown of most successful Pixar movie off all time. That record had been previously help by Finding Nemo, which took over $486.7 million back in 2003.
