11 best ‘Supernatural’ sidekicks, from Crowley to Castiel

Highlight on New Movie Released DVD

Grab your demon-killing knives and make sure you have enough rock salt on hand, for Tuesday (Sept. 13) is Supernatural Day and all hell might literally be breaking loose.

11 years ago, “Supernatural” first began airing on The WB and soon became a part of The CW’s lineup. Over a decade later, it has sustained itself as the longest-running series on the network. How has this show maintained such a prevalent shelf life? Two words: the fans.

With exactly a month until Season 12 of the series premieres, we wanted to take this time to celebrate the show in our own way. The Winchesters may ultimately be the heart of the show, but they’d be nowhere without the friends and partnerships they’ve made along the way.

So … without further ado, Zap2it takes a look back at the best “Supernatural” sidekicks from the past 11 seasons.

Jo Harvelle

Dean (Jensen Ackles) really met his match when he crossed paths with Jo Harvelle (Alona Tal). She may be gone, but she is definitely not forgotten.

Ruby

Sure she went by a couple of pretty faces, but if we had to choose between Lilith (Katie Cassidy) and Ruby (Genevieve Padalecki), we’d obviously go with the brunette below. Heck, Jared Padelecki went so far as to marry her!

Meg

Not all demons on “Supernatural” are bad. Take Meg (Rachel Miner), for example. While she was obviously evil, she became a reluctant team member of the Winchesters. Oh, and we can still cut the sexual tension between her and Castiel (Misha Collins) with a knife.

Kevin Tran

Sometimes life can throw lemons at you. If you’re Kevin Tran (Osric Chau), you do your best to make some God-like lemonade.

The Ghostfacers

Sam and Dean quickly learned early on that their crew weren’t the only hunters on the planet. Unfortunately for The Ghostfacers, they found out soon enough that monsters are real … and they are everywhere.

Sheriff Jody Mills

When Sheriff Jody Mills’ (Kim Rhodes) dead son returned as a zombie, Sam and Dean entered her life and things were never the same for the Sioux Falls police officer. Her relationship with Bobby is a delightful highlight of the series.

Chuck/God

First introduced as a writer who authored books mirroring Sam and Dean’s adventures, it was eventually revealed that Chuck (Rob Benedict) here is actually God. Who didn’t see that coming!?

Crowley

Okay, let’s be clear here … Crowley is not a good guy. But sometimes, the Winchester family business relies making unsavory deals for the greater good. Remember when Dean and him were demon bros? Good times.

Baby

If ever there was a constant throughout the series, it’d be Dean’s love for classic cars. While Sam has taken the wheel once or twice, those occasions are very rare as Dean is the driver in their relationship.

Castiel

First arriving in Season 5, Castiel has become the best angel to ever say, “Assbutt” on television. But seriously, if ever the apocalypse were to hit, we’d want him in our corner.

Bobby Singer

Sam and Dean may have spent a fair share of the series either searching for their father or reminiscing on their early days of hunting, but when all is said and done, Bobby here was their true mentor and guide. He may be dead, but as we’ve learned throughout “Supernatural,” death is not the end. Since passing away in Season 7, Bobby has continued to pop up in every season to date.
