A tension-building ‘Prison Break’ sets the stage for Michael & Lincoln’s epic re…

They say it’s not the destination, but the journey. While in “Kaniel Outis” (April 11) “Prison Break” continues to bides its time in delivering the Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller)/Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) reunion we all need,  lays the groundwork for the brothers to come together — lining up the season’s big escape.

Last week’s premiere spent most of its time focusing on Lincoln’s discovery of Michael’s fate — and his journey to Yemen to gain proof. The episode’s final moments gave a tiny taste of what’s to come: Even if they’re separated by bars, Michael and Lincoln, standing together under a prison roof, will always be worth our excitement.

“Kaniel Outis” splits its focus between Michael’s life inside Ogygia prison and Lincoln’s mission to break him out. And while we found it intensely touching to watch Lincoln risk life and limb against ISIS soldiers, it’s in Michael’s incarceration that our real curiosity lies.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from watching Scofield throughout “Prison Break’s” original run, it’s that the wheels are always turning. Our hero has obviously changed a lot over the past seven years — is he really working with renowned terrorist leader Abu Ramal (Numan Acar)? — but there is always a method to Michael’s madness. We just don’t quite know what form it’s taking these days.

Obviously, there’s a desire to see Michael and Lincoln working together again — and making audiences wait for this big moment is the right move. With only nine episodes total, the balance between story and action is crucial here. After all, everyone thought Michael was dead for the past seven years! Not only do Lincoln and Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies) need to acclimate to this new reality, fans need to adjust to the changed world as well.

This adjustment period is almost over, though. As we see in the episode’s final moments, Michael’s grand plan is finally a go — and the gang has merely 24 hours before all hell breaks loose.

“Prison Break” airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
