On Tuesday, Bollywood Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan was chosen as sanitation brand ambassador for promoting cleanliness in Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) institutions in India.
After launching the National School Sanitation Initiative at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi, Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal said, “We are happy to have Aamir as our brand ambassador. We hope, he will help this scheme become a success.”
He appreciated Aamir’s involvement in children’s upliftment that he has shown through his movies like Taare Zameen Par and 3 Idiots.
Aamir felt honored to accept this offer and he said that he would sit down with both the HRD and urban development ministries to learn more about the issue so that he could create a “package which will be easily available through CDs and internet for use in schools”.
The minister claimed that only nine percent of school students wash their hands before eating. He added, “They are the future and their good health will help a better tomorrow.”
Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy also attended the event and he said, “With this initiative, we will create awareness about sanitation at the school level. Students are change agents and we are targeting them.”
We hope that this step taken by the HRD ministry and the urban development ministry brings some positive changes in the conditions of schools in India.
