‘About a Boy’ from ‘Parenthood’ producer gets NBC pilot order
NBC’s TV version of the 2002 Hugh Grant film About a Boy is going to the next level.
The network has given a pilot order to the project, which is based on the Nick Hornby novel. The single-camera comedy is executive produced by Jason Katims (Parenthood, Friday Night Lights) follows a slacker bachelor whose world is upended after a young boy and his single mother move in next door. This isn’t the first time a network has attempted an About a Boy series; Patrick Dempsey was set to star in a version in 2003.
About a Boy is the latest greenlight now that broadcasters are starting to get into pilot season. On Friday, Fox ordered an Andy Samberg comedy pilot, CBS ordered a pilot starring comic Jim Gaffigan and The CW announced a Vampire Diaries spinoff.
