‘Almost Human’ series premiere: Watch Karl Urban trash a robot

FOX is offering up its biggest preview of “Almost Human” thus far, an eight-minute chunk of the series premiere that pretty well encapsulates everything you need to know about the show going in.

There are introductions to nearly every regular character, including stars Karl Urban as damaged cop John Kennex and Michael Ealy as Dorian, Kennex’s new robot partner. You’ll see glimpses of the show’s setting in the year 2048, a mostly familiar world with just enough futuristic touches to sell the idea. Kennex’s boss (Lili Taylor) and Rudy (Mackenzie Crook), the robot IT guy, provide tidy exposition about the prevalence of robots on the police force and Dorian’s back story.

And since it’s a cop show in addition to its sci-fi trappings, you’ll also get to see the setup to the case of the week, along with indications that Kennex is both a trusted detective and one who likes to play by his own rules. It’s really a very efficient piece of preview storytelling.

“Almost Human” premieres at 8 p.m. ET Sunday, Nov. 17 on FOX.
