On Sunday the Bollywood idol Amitabh Bachchan was in Bhubaneswar to inaugurate an Indian classical music school, Vrindavan Gurukul.
The institution has been together set up by Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, the famous flute performer and santoor expert Shiv Kumar Sharma.
Vridavan Gurukul is built to teach and promote India’s cultural performing arts, music and especially dance along with yoga and meditation in a calm atmosphere abiding the principles of ancient Indian gurukul.
Big B said,” The entire tradition of guru (teacher) and shishya (student) is by itself a very conventional Indian issue and I think there are a very few schools and indeed individuals who actually care for this tradition and bother to promote it as their love for the music and their profession has grown.”
Pandit Chaurasia said that his dream of gurukul has finally come true where all the Indian music like classical, thumri and folk will be taught. He said,” The children will just need to come here and surrender themselves to their gurus who will adopt them and nurture them.”
The event was also witnessed by Orissa chief minister Naveen Patnaik and Jaya Bachchan.
