The struggle to bring Janis Joplin’s life to the big screen is over: Oscar-nominated actress Amy Adams will transform into the “Get It While You Can” hitmaker in an upcoming Joplin biopic.
The still-untitled movie will be helmed Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles, who hot to fame and critical acclaim with his 2004 feature, City of God.
In an interview with Fearnet.com, Twilight producer Wyck Godfrey confirms he is at work on several new films, and “one’s a Fernando Meirelles Janis Joplin movie with Amy Adams playing Janis Joplin.”
The life story of the blue-eyed soul star has long been in the works. Joplin scored such hits as “Me and Bobby McGee” and “Piece of My Heart” before her career was cut short by a drug overdose in 1970. She was 27. One project, The Gospel According To Janis, with Zooey Deschanel attached to star, was in development in the mid-2000s, but fell through before coming to fruitation.
