Brendan Fraser’s Broadway debut has been cut short. After 22 previews and nine performances, the curtain will close on the New York stage production of Elling on Sunday, Nov. 28, giving the play one of the shortest runs in recent memory.
The theatrical production of Simon Bent’s Norwegian comedy, which starred Fraser and True Blood’s Denis O’Hare, opened at the Ethel Barrymore Theater earlier this month. It received mixed reviews and earned only $145,070 for its eight performances, with many tickets sold at a sharp discount.
“If you want to see Elling, ya better hurry. We are being closed down this Sunday… yup. Our producers will go no further. Happy Thanksgiving!” O’Hare wrote on Thursday, taking to his Facebook page to announce the news.
Elling producers described the show as “a comedy about a wildly mismatched pair of roommates trying to embrace life, love, friendship, pizza, poetry and women.”
The play co-starred Richard Easton, Jennifer Coolidge, and Jeremy Shamos.
