“The name on everybody’s lips is gonna be Christie!” Iconic ’80s supermodel Christie Brinkley has announced that she’ll be making her Broadway debut in a revival of the Tony Award-winning musical Chicago. Beginning April 4, the former shampoo pitchwoman who will take over the role of scheming murderess Roxie Hart in an 11-week engagement at the Ambassador Theatre in Manhattan.
Brinkley made her acting debut as “The Girl in the Red Ferrari” opposite Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo in the hit 1983 comedy National Lampoon’s Vacation. She also had cameo in its 1997 sequel, Vegas Vacation. Still Brinkley’s a bit overwhelmed by the prep work required for her stage premiere, which includes dance lessons, voice lessons, and script memorization.
“I wake up in the morning counting! My feet are constantly moving now, I’m really enjoying it. There’s a lot to do, it can be really daunting, but it’s something I always dreamt of, so when the opportunity came I just could not pass it by!”
Actresses who have previously played Roxie in the longrunning muscial include Brooke Shields, Sandy Duncan, Marilu Henner, Ashlee Simpson, Destiny’s Child’s Michelle Williams, and Melanie Griffith. Oscar winner Renee Zellweger assumed the role in the popular 2003 movie musical.
