Christina Aguilera “Devastated” After Botching Lyrics To National Anthem

All the belting, bellowing, and contorted facial expressions in the world couldn’t save pop powerhouse and five-time Grammy Award winner Christina Aguilera from public humiliaton after she flubbed the lyrics to “The Star-Spangled Banner,” our National Anthem, just before the Steelers vs. Packers faceoff in Super Bowl XLV on Sunday.

The “Genie in a Bottle” hitmaker seemed to run into trouble with the line: “O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming.” Instead Christina repeated an earlier line, with a slight variation. She sang: “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last gleaming…” the same line from earlier in the song but with the word “watched” instead of “hailed.”

The Red-Lipped One nailed the anthem when she performed it twice during last year’s NBA Finals, and she’s reportedly “devastated” over the snafu during the big Pregame Show at Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The mistake immediately sparked a host of comments on social network sites, like Facebook and Twitter. Sunday’s performance, in fact, is being hailed Aguilera’s biggest public embarrassment since her Bionic comeback album went belly-up on the pop charts last summer.

“This was the biggest performance of her career and she blew it. To mess up the lyrics was a disaster,” one onlooker tells PopEater’s Naughty But Nice Column.

Another loose-lipped spy chimed in with: “She knows she messed up big time. It’s an honor to be ask and she let America and herself down. She doesn’t want anyone around her. Everyone telling her she was great but she knows the truth.”

Australian glossy NW Magazine believes Aguilera is out of control. The tabloid quotes insiders who say the singer is footloose and not so fancy free after putting on weight over regrets about the recent bust-up of her marriage.

“She thought splitting up with Jordan was the right thing to do. She seemed jealous whenever she saw her friends, like Samantha Ronson, out partying. What she didn’t realise was that going out doesn’t actually make her happy either.”
