Clive Owen and Mia Wasikowska Offered Roles in Spike Lee’s ‘Oldboy’ Remake
As Colin Firth probably taught you: just because a movie star gets offered the chance to work with Spike Lee and Josh Brolin on their remake of Park Chan-wook’s ‘Oldboy,’ doesn’t necessarily mean that he or she will come aboard. Twitch reports that both Clive Owen and Mia Wasikowska were offered the two remaining leading roles in ‘Oldboy’ on Friday, following passes from both Firth and Rooney Mara.
In the original film, a man is kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years; upon release, he teams with a young girl to hunt down his captor. Brolin would play the imprisoned man, Owen would play his captor and Wasikowska would play the young girl should all the deals be signed and sealed.
Interestingly, Owen worked with Lee previously on ‘Inside Man,’ while Wasikowska just finished ‘Stoker,’ the English-language debut of Chan-wook.
Whether or not these deals get consummated remains to be seen. ‘Oldboy’ is due out in theaters sometime next year.
