Could Enzo head to New Orleans after ‘The Vampire Diaries’ ends?

Highlight on New Movie Released DVD

With every episode of “The Vampire Diaries” bringing us closer and closer to the series finale, we’re getting pretty weepy about saying goodbye to all our favorite characters.

Fortunately, there’s a small shred of hope that some members of the Mystic Falls gang might be tempted to travel to New Orleans after all is said and done, taking up permanent residence on the show’s spinoff, “The Originals.”

One of the characters we most want to see make the jump is Enzo (Michael Malarkey).

We recently asked Malarkey if he thought Enzo might have a future on “The Originals” after his time in Mystic Falls comes to an end, and as is always the case, we got a “definitely, maybe.”

“It would really make any sense, since he doesn’t know any of them,” Malarkey says, “But I’d be happy to turn up in New Orleans. I might pitch it that they actually shoot in New Orleans so I can visit, but it would be nice to go play with them for a bit.”

It’s true that throwing Enzo into the mix in New Orleans would seem a little odd considering has no history with any of the Original vampires — as far as we know, at least. Plus, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and his family seem to have enough on their plate these days (being either imprisoned, comatose or both) without adding another sassy British anti-hero to their inner circle.

However, having come into “The Vampire Diaries” in Season 5, we’ve gotten significantly less time with Enzo than with the other main characters, and there’s still a lot of ground left to cover with him.

There’s a pretty big chunk of time between his transition into a vampire and his days trapped in the Augustine prison at Whitmore that needs to be accounted for, and wouldn’t it just be the best if he’d spent some of that time down in New Orleans?  On the other hand, we know he was a soldier before being captured and held hostage for 80 years, so maybe he and Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) rubbed shoulders while fighting abroad?

Needless to say, there’s plenty of opportunity to integrate Enzo into the “The Originals” if his addition makes sense and feels necessary to the storyline.

We’d probably have to wait until Season 5 of “The Originals” comes around to see him make the jump, but we’re willing to wait if it means Enzo makes it out of the final season of “The Vampire Diaries” alive.

“The Vampire Diaries” airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
