Could ‘Supergirl’s’ Mon-El actually be the Prince of Daxam?

Highlight on New Movie Released DVD

Mon-El (Chris Wood) may be new to “Supergirl,” but it didn’t take long for us to fall head over heels in love with him and his attempts to assimilate on earth. From learning how to eat pancakes to figuring out what a “Presibent” is, he’s quickly becoming one of our favorite new characters of the fall.

Unfortunately, Mon-El is hiding a pretty big secret from all his new earth friends: He’s currently being hunted by a spaceship full of not so friendly looking aliens.

Why on earth would these aliens be looking for a lowly Daxamite palace guard in the first place? We’ve got a theory.

As Mon-El told it, he was best friends with the prince he was guarding on Daxam. So close, in fact, that this prince shoved him into an escape pod as the planet was — destroyed, choosing to go down with his ship, as it were. A harrowing tale, to be sure… But we’ve got a sneaking suspicion it’s not entirely true.

Our best guess is that Mon-El isn’t the bodyguard in this story; he’s the prince.

From the moment he got to earth, Mon-El has expressed little interest in working, training or doing generally anything the least bit taxing. He’d rather drink beer and hit on girls. It’s almost like he grew up in the lap of luxury, wanting for nothing and getting every girl he approached. What we first dismissed as frat-boy behavior, we’re now seeing as entitlement — the true mark of someone whose birthright put them a cut above the rest.

More importantly, have you ever seen Mon-El fight? After getting his powers, he had zero interest in using them to protect the people of Earth, even though his sole purpose on Daxam was apparently to be a guard. Then, the first time he steps up to the plate to do battle with an alien parasite monster, he gets swiftly and soundly knocked out of the match. It’s almost like he has no combat training at all, which would be odd for a professional guard assigned to protect the second most important person on the planet.

If he is the Prince of Damax, these aliens tracking him down could be friendly. Other surviving Daxamites, looking to rescue their prince. If they’re not… He maybe should have kept the whole “prince” thing on lockdown, or at least explain why he’s lying to Kara about his identity.

Perhaps we’re reading too much into this, but when “Supergirl” returns, we’ll be paying special attention to Mon-El.

“Supergirls” returns Jan. 16, 2017 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
