The so-called Diff’rent Strokes Curse has struck again….

The son of late ’80s child star Dana Plato has taken his own life in a tragic repeat of history almost 11 years to the day of the death of his mother, The National Enquirer has learned.

Tyler Lambert, who had a history of substance abuse and depression, died last Friday after embarking on a drug binge before putting a shotgun in his mouth and pulling the trigger in his Tulsa, Oklahoma home. Tyler’s mom, Dana starred as Kimberly Drummond in the hit 1980s TV sitcom — which launched the turbulent careers of Todd Bridges and Gary Coleman. She lost her battle with drugs to an overdose on May 8, 1999. She was 36.

In 2006, Tyler, then 21, filed a $20,000 wrongful death lawsuit against Plato’s former fiance, claiming he contributed to her death by “not giving immediate medical assistance or contacting medical personnel” immediately after the overdose.

Tyler — who spiralled into a bout of depression as the anniversary of his mom’s death loomed as much of the rest of the world prepared to celebrate Mother’s Day.

“Tyler wanted to be with his mother. His father Lanny is devastated,” his grandmother Joni Richardson told The Enquirer. According to Richardson, Tyler a cameraman and amateur songwriter, had long struggled with his mother’s premature death. The grief eventually became too great.

Tyler Lambert was 25.
