Darren Criss may join ‘Downers Grove’ months after Bret Easton Ellis’ anti-’Glee’ tweets

Water under the bridge? Back in April, American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis released a barrage of harsh tweets mocking Fox’s Glee that invited the ire of both fans and members of the gay community alike. One of Ellis’ tweets: “I like the idea of ‘Glee’ but why is it that every time I watch an episode I feel like I’ve stepped into a puddle of HIV?”

But now it looks like Ellis may be working with one of the show’s most beloved stars. Back-tracking a bit from his previous statements, Ellis wrote a tweet praising Glee‘s talent (“Whatever my problems with Glee have nothing to do with the incredibly talented cast itself. Have tastelessly bashed the show not the actors.”) before stating his intention to work with Criss, who plays Blaine on the Fox series, on 2012′s Downers Grove, which Ellis is writing. “And no,” he added, “the producers of the script I wrote (Downers Grove) which Darren Criss might (or might not) star in didn’t make me write that tweet.”

Reps for Criss have not yet confirmed whether or not the actor will star in Downers Grove, an adaptation of Michael Hornburg’s 2001 novel about a high school coping with a curse: One member of the senior class dies in a bizarre fashion every year. The film already stars Hayden Panettiere, Nikki Reed, and Lucy Hale.
