Elvis Autopsy Tools Up For Grabs

If you’re an Elvis collector with a strong stomach, we’ve got a deal with your name written all over it: The embalmer who prepared Elvis Presley body’s following his fatal overdose 32 years ago is auctioning off the instruments he used on the King of Rock n’ Roll’s corpse.

The unidentified mortician was employed at the Memphis Funeral Home, where Elvis’ body was taken after he died in the bathroom of his Graceland estate on Aug. 16, 1977. The senior embalmer saved a number of items used to prepare the legend’s corpse and will be hawking them during a public auction in The Windy City next month.

The items up for auction include a comb, forceps, rubber gloves, eye liner, needle injectors, an arterial tube and aneurysm hooks. They were used only once — to embalm Elvis’ body, apply makeup to his face, and dye his graying hair jet-black.

The toe tag reads “John Doe,” because a fan nicked the one reading “Elvis Presley,” shortly after his death.

All instruments used in the autopsy of Elvis Presley will be sold at auction by Leslie Hindman Auctioneers on Aug. 12.
