There’s nothing unusual about people naming their kids after their favorite stars, but when your favorite star happens to be an alleged hermaphrodite with a weird name and bad fashion sense, perhaps selecting a Biblical name would be a safer bet.
After all, you can never go wrong with Joseph or Mary, right?
Too bad no one gave that advice to the father of a baby girl born in Northumberland, England this week. The tot has been named Meggie Maisie Lady Gaga after the “Poker Face” pop sensation — at the insistence of her fanboy pop.
We spy at least a decade of playground torment in this poor child’s future.
According to The Northern Echo newspaper, Little Meggie’s dad, Ian Clark, chose to add Stefani Germanotta’s stage name to impress his four-year-old stepdaughter, who is a big fan of the singer.
“When I asked the children what we should call the new baby, Maddy said we should call her Lady Gaga. I just thought it was a great name and I’m sure the bairn will find it funny when she’s older. But people were saying Meggie was an old-fashioned name so I thought Lady Gaga was different,” Ian explains.
But that doesn’t mean his wife is very happy about it.
“I can’t believe he actually went ahead and did it,” says Melanie Robinson. “Ian thought it was a really good idea, but I told him no way. The registrar asked three times if there was anything he wanted to change about the name but he didn’t back down. It’s still strange to look at the birth certificate now.”
Melanie continues: “Everybody keeps asking to have a look at it because they don’t believe he went and did it. But the more someone tells Ian he shouldn’t do it, the more he wants to. I’m still in shock now.”
Oh well, naming your kid after a celebrity is probably a better choice than the names some celebrities give their own kids.
