Everything we know about ‘The Flash’s’ ‘Gorilla City’ epic

Highlight on New Movie Released DVD

You’d better be ready for quite an adventure because “The Flash” is going somewhere it’s never been before. More than once, Grodd the telepathic Gorilla has brought his particular brand of destruction to Central City. Now it’s time for payback, as Team Flash heads to Gorilla City to rescue Harry (Tom Cavanagh), who’s been kidnapped.

Instead of one brainy ape messing up the Flash’s world, the team’s dealing with a whole society of very special gorillas in the two-part special — and we simply can’t wait. Luckily, thanks to new photos and trailers released for the upcoming “Attack on Gorilla City,” we have an idea of what to expect… And pardon our excitement, but it looks like “The Flash’s” most epic outing yet.

So what is there to know about the Gorilla City saga? Let’s have a look and find out.

Grodd isn’t the only ape they’ll be fighting

While going to Gorilla City naturally means the team will encounter more than just Grodd, based on photos from the episode Barry (Grant Gustin) and company are bringing the fight to a giant white ape, too. According to The CW, that’s Solovar (Keith David) — in the comics, the king of Gorilla City before being killed by a group controlled by Grodd. Like Grodd, Solovar is a telepath.

Given that they’re introducing Solovar to this story, it also suggests some strife within Gorilla City. Perhaps Grodd isn’t exactly beloved by his fellow apes…

Harry isn’t Grodd’s only prisoner

While the team goes to Gorilla City to save Harry, in no time at all they appear to end up in the clutches of the Gorilla themselves, locked in cages. Even Barry is stuck behind bars, which leads us to wonder why he can’t simply phase through them to escape. Could Barry’s powers be canceled out on whatever Earth Team Flash finds Gorilla City?

Julian really wants to be Indiana Jones

If the hat’s any indication, Julian (Tom Felton) definitely wants to be Indiana Jones when he grows up. Even the rest of the team can’t help but notice in the trailer for “Attack on Gorilla City.”

We don’t care, though: We’re just happy Julian’s along for the ride. Until now he’s gotten all the burden of being part of Team Flash, without the perks. Now he gets to do some dimension-hopping and do battle with telepathic gorillas? If that’s something he’s into, we’re all for it.

Harry looks about as unhappy as ever

It’s hard not to love the eternally snarky and cynical Earth-2 version of Harrison Wells — and it looks like his time in Gorilla City has done nothing to brighten his spirits. Of course, being kidnapped by menacing apes isn’t exactly the same as a vacation…

That said, fingers are crossed for some classic picture-perfect exchanges between Cisco (Carlos Valdes) and Harry — they’ve been sorely missed all season. And we can’t wait for Cisco to tell him all about HR!

The Julian and Caitlin romance might finally happen

Poor Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker). She can’t seem to manage having a guy in her life without him dying or becoming a supervillain. But she shares a very interesting connection with Julian — and the fact that they’re both scientists at heart definitely helps.

It’s impossible to say for sure if they’re going to get romantic after their trip to Gorilla City — but the above picture looks much friendlier than normal.

Iris, Wally and Joe aren’t making this trip

In the trailer for “Attack on Gorilla City,” Barry, Caitlin, Julian and Cisco can be seen jumping into their portal to another dimension — unfortunately, it looks as though Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale), Iris (Candice Patton) and Joe (Jesse L. Martin) stay behind.

While we don’t know what the West trio will be up to during these two episodes, it’s the perfect chance for a little family bonding. Pizza and a movie, anyone?

“The Flash” kicks off the two-episode arc with “Attack on Gorilla City” Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
