‘Farewell Amor,’ Sundance Prize Winner, Picked Up by IFC

IFC Films has acquired the North American rights to “Farewell Amor,” the movie from Ekwa Msangi that premiered in competitors at this 12 months’s Sundance and was awarded the Producer’s Award.

IFC is planning a launch for “Farewell Amor” in December of this 12 months.

“Farewell Amor” is the story of a person named Walter who reunites together with his household after 17 years in exile in New York City from his house in Angola. The movie begins as Walter is selecting up his household from the airport and bringing them again to his one-bedroom residence in Brooklyn. They rapidly uncover how the years of separation have turned them into absolute strangers. As they try to beat the private and political hurdles amongst them, they depend on the muscle reminiscence of dance to seek out their manner again “home.”

Msangi is a Sundance Institute fellow who each wrote and directed “Farewell Amor” as her debut characteristic. The movie stars Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Zainab Jah, Jayme Lawson, Joie Lee, Marcus Scribner, and Nana Mensah.

“Farewell Amor” gained the 2020 Sundance Institute Producer’s Award on behalf of producer Huriyyah Muhammad (Outrageous Pictures). Additional producing companions embody Sam Bisbee (Park Pictures), Josh Penn (Department of Motion Pictures), Ekwa Msangi (Outrageous Pictures), Joe Plummer (Wavelength Productions) and Bobby Allen (MUBI), with co-producer Emily McCann Lesser.

Not many are bold enough to distribute a story about an African family fighting for love, and the fact that IFC sees the human story in our film and are willing to champion it says a lot about them. If there were ever a time that our world needed a reminder of our humanity, it is now,” Msangi stated in an announcement.

The deal for the movie was negotiated by IFC Films’ EVP of acquisitions and productions Arianna Bocco with Endeavor Content, Film Constellation, and Cassian Elwes on behalf of the filmmakers, in addition to Anita Surendran, Granderson Des Rochers LLP dealing with authorized.
