‘Fast and Furious’ Star Paul Walker Dies in Car Crash

TMZ and several other sources are reporting tonight that Fast and Furious star Paul Walker died Saturday afternoon when his Porsche slammed into an object described as either a “post or a tree.” The actor was in Santa Clara, CA for a car show and driving around friends when the accident took place, according to the site. Walker’s lone passenger is unidentified at this time, and it’s very much still a developing story.

Walker is best known as one of the leaders of the Fast and Furious franchise, where he played Brian O’Conner. The next Fast and Furious movie, due out July 11, 2014, is still completing its production. Walker was great at playing that flawed action hero; the damaged heartthrob. He’s a huge presence and his absence will no doubt be felt throughout Hollywood. Walker’s other standout roles include Varisty Blues, Joy Ride, She’s All That and the underappreciated Running Scared. His next film, the Hurricane Katrina drama Hours, is due out in December. He was 40.

Walker’s Facebook page has been updated with the following:

“It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend’s car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised on where to send condolences. – #TeamPW”
