Finally, ‘The Walking Dead’ delivers the reunion we’ve been waiting for
It’s a strange time to be a fan of “The Walking Dead.” From extreme lows like the beginning of Season 7, to extreme highs like the survivors reuniting and resolving to destroy Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), it’s been a rollercoaster. But the zombie-infested series reached a true high point of the last couple seasons with the Feb. 19 episode, when two fan0favorite characters were finally brought back together after way too long.
Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) were reunited, and it felt so good. These two have been the best of friends at various points throughout “The Walking Dead,” but were separated during Season 6 — leaving Carol out of the loop when it came to the group’s season-ending showdown with Negan.
As a matter of fact, she had no idea what happened to the group, or about the loss of both Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz). By the end of their too-short reunion, she’s still in the dark about it: Instead, Daryl simply tells her that the group worked out a deal with Negan to keep everyone safe.

While we can understand Daryl withholding the news from Carol for now, it’s going to come to light sooner or later — and when it does, Negan and just about everyone had better watch out. There’s not really anyone on Earth who can stop a motivated Carol, and we fear for the poor souls who come face-to-face with that kind of vengeance.
In the end, Daryl left Carol to her peaceful life outside of the Kingdom, which is a bit of a disappointment. You can’t bring these two back together just to rip them apart again!
That said, this is bound all be part of a much bigger plan. For too long, Carol has been rather docile, minding her own business. When it comes to the war with Negan, it’s a safe bet she’ll be one of the most ruthless soldiers out there, taking care of business — and we can’t wait.

What make this particular story so interesting is there is no basis for it in the comics: While Negan, and the great war, are major events in Robert Kirkman’s graphic novels, both Carol and Daryl are in uncharted territory. While the former dies in the first 50 issues of the series, the latter never appeared in it at all. It’s part of what makes their connection so special — it evolved of its own accord.
That also sets up a memorable piece of the impending war, in which both of these characters will no doubt play a major role. B0th will inevitably be seeking revenge — and neither of them has a problem getting extremely violent, should the occasion call for it.
Watching most of the survivors get together for the purposes of ruining Negan was a nice pick-me-up in the midseason premiere. It’s Carol and Daryl, two very wild cards, that has us excited for the remainder of Season 7.
“The Walking Dead” airs at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC. If recording, don’t forget that it usually runs long.
