Find Out How That Star Destroyer Crashed in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’

The new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer may have the best opening shot of any trailer we’ve seen in quite a while. That slow pan of a tiny speeder bike coasting across a desert planet, with the reveal that they’re cruising in front of an Imperial Star Destroyer that has crash landed long ago. It’s both a beautiful call back to the original Star Wars trilogy, and a giant invitation for fans to ask, “Where is this and why’d that happen?”

It looks we’ll have answers to both those questions a few weeks before The Force Awakens even hits theaters, thanks to the new Star Wars Battlefront game and a free piece of downloadable content called “Battle of Jakku.”

According to the game’s producers, the Battle of Jakku took place a year after The Battle of Endor, and was the result of the New Republic (AKA the Rebel Alliance) coming across a leftover enclave of the Empire’s Imperial army out in deep space. Furthermore, it’s been confirmed that the movie will not show that Battle at all, so the only way to see what happened to Jakku before The Force Awakens is to get Star Wars Battlefront.

That’s not the only reason to get Battlefront, though. The game will also take you to iconic skirmishes on Hoth, Tatooine, Endor (as seen below), and a new lava-heavy planet called Sullust. And better yet, you can even command a battle as Darth Vader, if you’re the kind of person who would rather stomp out the Rebel Alliance than see them come to power.
