This weekend’s homegoing service for late child star Gary Coleman has been postponed as the actor’s former wife and long-estranged parents war over his remains and burial plans.
In the Battle of The Stage Parents, The Colemans make Joe Jackson look like Santa Claus….
Gary’s former manager and family spokesman Victor Perillo said Coleman’s parents — Willie and Sue — are the legal custodians of his body because he was divorced from his wife, Shannon Price, in 2008. The Colemans had not been in contact with their son in 21 years and it was Price who ordered that Gary be taken off of life support after he fell deathly-ill with a brain hemorrhage in a Utah hospital last week.
The Coleman’s say they’re filing for formal control of Gary’s estate, whether Shannon likes it or not.
“The Colemans don’t want to fight with anyone. They just want to bring their son home. Mr. and Mrs. Coleman are Gary Coleman’s surviving family. They’re hoping that by applying for Formal Probate, they can get through this process the right way. Of course they’ve heard the rumors, and quite frankly, I don’t understand why so many people who knew Gary are being so secretive. The status of the divorce, whether or not anyone has a will, these are all issues that should be brought to the family’s attention immediately. Formal Probate is the way we make sure it all gets handled properly,” the family said in a statement issued Friday.
Shannon, on the other hand, refuses to hand over Gary’s remains: “It’s clear that Shannon is the one that Gary wants to represent him, as she did in the hospital. He didn’t mention, at any time, his parents,” said an attorney for the 24-year-old redhead. “Gary signed papers giving Shannon full authorization,” she says. “Gary didn’t contact his parents at all since he was in the hospital. He hadn’t talked to them since he was 17. Even at a critical time, the only one he wanted to be responsible for him medically was [a person] he referred to as his wife, Shannon. Even though they were divorced, it wasn’t something that stopped them from being together. It was just a piece of paper to Gary and Shannon.”
Memorial Estates funeral director Blake Yates has confirmed the funeral service has been cancelled.
CAUTION: RANT AHEAD!
Talk about insult on top of injury!!! Those vultures ripped him off in life, now they want to steal his body? And don’t get me started on Shannon “I Don’t Do Blood, I Can’t Help Him, I Can’t Do Anything” Price. Gary was such a magnet for leeches! This is a slap in the face to the poor man and his memory. He sued his parents and business manager in 1989 for stealing millions from him and he was estranged from them ever since. He outed them for what they were – greedy parasites who overworked a sick child to line their pockets. He obviously didn’t want further contact with them in life, why would he want them to have final saying as to his resting place? Poor Gary, he is turning in his grave — and he isn’t even buried yet. Even in death, they’re still screwing him.
Everyone involved needs to get their heads out of their butts and come together to do what’s best for Gary. Compromise on the burial, folks!
