Geoffrey Rush Named Australian Of The Year 2012

Looks like you can throw another shrimp on the barbie for Geoffrey Rush! (Alternate hack stock Australian cliche: THAT’S a knife!)

The “King’s Speech” actor was named Australian Of The Year 2012. Not letting his Oscar, BAFTA, Tony, Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Award usurp his love of his hometown, Rush has been an active patron of the Australian arts, in addition to being the ambassador for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and UNICEF Australia. In 2011 he became foundation president of the Australian Academy Of Cinema and Television Arts.

Honoring both high profile Australians and local role models, The Australian Of The Year Awards said “Geoffrey remains extraordinarily grounded in his local community, his country and the Australian arts industry.”

Congrats, mate!
