George And Cindy Anthony At Caylee Memorial: ‘It’s Hard To Come Here’

Tuesday would have been Caylee Marie Anthony’s sixth birthday, and to honor her memory her grandparents George and Cindy Anthony attended a public memorial for their beloved granddaughter.

George spoke to reporters and well-wishers at the site where little Caylee’s remains were found, saying: “This is the first time I’ve been here in so long. It’s hard to come here,” according to the Orlando Sentinel.

The memorial was held on Suburban Street, just blocks from the Anthony home where Casey and Caylee lived with George and Cindy, and was organized by the group Bring Kids Home, who are working to build a memorial in the little girl’s memory.

George said that he would support a memorial if it was done tastefully and was focused on helping find other missing children, but he did say he hasn’t seen the plans yet. He and Cindy hugged mourners and participated in releasing Caylee’s favorite color purple balloons in her memory.

Casey Anthony, 25, was acquitted of murdering her then 2-year-old daughter, who her defense attorneys claimed drowned in the family pool in a tragic accident on June 16, 2008.

Both of Anthony’s parents testified multiple times during the emotional murder trial of their daughter, and since her release have not seen or spoken with her according to their lawyer.
