Gerard Butler Will Return for Another Round of Saving Lives in 'Angel Has Fallen'

London Has Fallen is the rare sequel that did better than its predecessor, Olympus Has Fallen, at the box office, $195 million to $161 million in worldwide totals. When that kind of thing happens, it’s probably a safe bet the studio will figure out something else for heroic Secret Service agent Mike Banning to save — something like… himself.

Deadline reports Gerard Butler will return once again portray Banning in a third installment of the action series called Angel Has Fallen. This time it won’t be the White House or all of London he’ll be protecting, but himself. Banning’s attackers come directly after him it seems, as he’s traveling with the President aboard Air Force One, code-named Angel. Hence the title.

London Has Fallen really thrived overseas, proving there may be more interest in the Die Hard-esque series when it’s set abroad. It’ll be interesting to see how well the third one does when they bring the action back to the States, if that’s what they intend to do. Considering much of it may take place on Air Force One, you could set the film anywhere.

They’re pretty good movies, too. There’s still a desire to root for a cop or a fireman or a Secret Service agent who saves the day — someone like a John McClane, who’s tough but ordinary and fun to cheer on. If they can continue to find new ways for McClane to save the day, then Banning could be protecting the President from danger well past Angel Has Fallen

But what can fall next? In many ways, that’s up to you.
