Damages actress Glenn Close is set to star as Scottish spinster-turned-singing sensation Susan Boyle in a proposed film about her life, according to new reports out of the UK.
The Fatal Attraction star has agreed to portray the multiplatinum-selling “I Dreamed a Dream” hitmaker in a biopic charting her incredible to rise to worldwide fame, which began with her appearance on Simon Cowell’s ITV talent show Britain’s Got Talent. Boyle has gone on to release two top-selling albums. She’s even appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show and performed for the Pope.
Though Susan, 49, had her heart set on Scottish TV actress Elaine C. Smith landing the lead role in the story of her life. Producers wanted a major Hollywood name for the role and ultimately decided on Glenn, 63. She is, after all, a five-time Oscar nominee who has won three Emmy Awards and picked up a pair of Golden Globes.
A film industry insider yaps to The Sun: “The film is full steam ahead now the leading role is sorted. It was always going to be a tricky one to cast. Susan’s incredible story is so well-known across the planet that the film is bound to go down a storm. Glenn has played some imposing women in the past including Alex Forrest, who boils the pet rabbit in ‘Fatal Attraction’. But this might just be her biggest role yet.”
Filming on the still-untitled Boyle film is expected to begin later this year.
