Golden Globes 2017: Simon Helberg Was Doing What When He Found Out About His Nomination?!
When ya gotta go, ya gotta go.
And that’s what Simon Helberg was doing when he found out he was nominated for a Golden Globe for his work in Florence Foster Jenkins.
“I was in the bathroom and it’s sad and it’s true and I don’t know if it’s a good story or it’s just embarrassing,” the Big Bang Theory star tells me.
He says he tried not to remember that the noms were being announced today. “I woke up a few minutes before they were announced and I got nervous and went to the bathroom,” Helberg said. “And then my phone buzzed and I hit a button on our fancy Japanese smart toilet and water started straying up. I was filled with life and joy and water.”
Helberg received a congratulatory email from his fellow nominee and co-star Meryl Streep “with a lot of emojis,” he said. “Only the fanciest ones most people don’t have access to.
“I bet she probably designed those,” Helberg said. “She’s that talented.”
Florence Foster Jenkins stars Streep in the title role as a real-life socialite from the 1940s who became famous for her awful singing voice. Helberg co-stars as her pianist Cosmé McMoon.
Rounding out the cast are Hugh Grant as Jenkins’ husband and manager and Rebecca Ferguson as his mistress.
The Paramount Pictures movie received a total of four Golden Globe nominations. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association will hand the awards on Jan. 8. Jimmy Fallon will host the big night.
