The composer Peter (Pyotr) Ilyich Tchaikovsky was born on 7 Born May 1840 in the Russian Votkinsk. Russian composer belongs to the Romantic Period. He was the second son of a mining engineer and his second wife Alexandra Andreyevna, the granddaughter of a French immigrant named Michel d’Assier.
Tchaikovsky studied at St. Petersburg’s. From 1866 to 1877, he took a teaching position in music theory at the Moscow Conservatory.
Tchaikovsky is the most important composer of Western-oriented Russian school. His compositions have been affected by, the works of Chopin and Mozart. Among his works include orchestral works, concertos, chamber music, piano music, ballets and choral works. The most famous are the ballets “Swan Lake,” “The Nutcracker” and the fantasy-overture “Romeo and Juliet”. Other than this his work includes 7 symphonies, 11 operas, 3 ballets, 5 suites, 3 piano concertos, a violin concerto, 11 overtures (strictly speaking, 3 overtures and 8 single movement programmatic orchestral works), 4 cantatas, 20 choral works, 3 string quartets, a string sextet, and more than 100 songs and piano pieces. Tchaikovsky died on 6 November 1893 in St. Petersburg.
