‘Gotham’: Jim Gordon just started a war with Don Falcone
It seems the theme of the second half of “Gotham’s” third season is going to be war. After a whimsical launch to Season 3 thanks to the Mad Hatter, divisions have been drawn deeply in Gotham City and it seems there’s no solution other than the various factions going head- to-head.
Most interestingly — and perhaps most dangerously — literal shots have been fired by Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and now he’s going to have a rejuvenated Carmine Falcone (John Doman) to deal with. Jim shot and assuredly killed his son Mario (James Carpinello), who was driven insane with the Tetch virus. However, Jim promised Carmine that he would return his son alive.

The last person you want to cross is a former mob boss who could easily have you dispatched of. Complicating matters further is Lee (Morena Baccarin), who married Mario in the midseason finale, only to witness her ex-love Gordon killing her new husband. While there is something to be said for Mario’s being poisoned by the virus, Lee had already been turned against Jim. This may be the moment that bond her and Carmine against Jim, which would certainly be an interesting route to take.
Regardless of which side Lee ends up on, things are about to get very bad for Jim. You can’t kill the son of a feared mob boss — retired or not — and expect to simply get away with it.

Looking past Gordon, there’s also the utter destruction of our beloved Nygmobblepot bromance/romance. Ed (Cory Michael Smith) knows that Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) killed the woman he loved — and he’s working with Barbara (Erin Richards), Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) and Butch (Drew Powell) to completely ruin him. Oswald doesn’t realize what’s happening yet but when he finds out the man he claims to love is out to get him, it’s going to be a tough moment to watch.
Finally, there’s the tale of Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) and his vendetta against the Court of Owls. After calling a truce with them at the beginning of Season 3, he’s now taken his fight — to rid Gotham City of them altogether — to their front door. What remains to be seen is what they’ll do now that he’s broken his promise.

Of course, you also have to wonder how Selina’s mom fits into all of this. The future Catwoman has been surviving rather well on her own over the years — but with her mom back in the picture that could easily all change. At the very least we’ll get the awkward conversation when Bruce introduces himself to his girlfriend’s mom.
“Gotham” returns to Fox on Monday, Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, for a three-week run leading into the show’s winter finale, Jan. 30.
