Jace & Clary’s relationship is officially on hold in ‘Shadowhunters’ Season 2
They seemed like the cutest, most perfect couple in all the world when “Shadowhunters” started, but recently we’re less sure about Jace (Dominic Sherwood) and Clary’s (Katherine McNamara) “true love” than we used to be: Mainly because they’re actually brother and sister.
Weird, creepy incest vibes aside, it’s probably a good thing “Shadowhunters” Season 2 is taking a break from the romantic subplot between these two kids.

Now that The Clave has started seriously taking the reins at the Institute, Jace’s demon blood secret is out, and Valentine’s shadowhunter army is ready to pounce, there are so many balls in the air we’re not sure which one takes first priority. Focusing on any romance at this point in the story (besides Malec — duh) seems like a waste of very precious time.
“There are more serious issues, and both Clary and Jace have found support systems in other characters within the story,” Dominic Sherwood says. “So it’s just kind of not looked at. We’ve just kind of fallen into ‘Well, I guess we’re brother and sister now, so we’ll just do this.’”
Katherine McNamara warns that the awkwardness of their familial connection has not entirely abated, however, and we’re sure to see that uncomfortable topic come up again.
“I mean the times that you do see them together, they are desperately trying to put aside any awkwardness and be there for each other as siblings,” McNamara says.

Separating these two, even if only for a little while, present a rare opportunity to rearrange who interacts with whom in Season 2. Freeing up even a fraction of Clary and Jace’s time might allow for some interesting new duos and dynamics to appear. Needless to say, we’re all on board.
We’re not opposed to “Shadowhunters” returning to the Clary/Jace debacle eventually, but we’re glad they’re setting it aside for now. As far as the future of this couple goes, we’ll leave you with one reminder: Sebastian will be heading our way in Season 2.
Fans of the “Mortal Instruments” books know exactly who Sebastian is, but for those of you wishing to remain unspoiled, just know that he’s bound to mix up a lot of dynamics… And quite a few things we think we know.
“Shadowhunters” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Freeform.
