Jackie Evancho, the 10-year-old soprano who stole hearts with her mesmerizing voice on the fifth season of America’s Got Talent, has set a Billboard record with the release of her debut album, O Holy Night.
On Tuesday, the disc of holiday hits and covers debuted No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and topped the classical charts with 293,000 copies sold in its first week of release. Jackie has become the youngest solo artist with a Top 10 single on the charts and even managed to become the bestselling debut artist of 2010.
“Jackie Evancho is one of the purest and finest vocalists I’ve ever heard, and the initial response to her debut release has been phenomenal,” says Steve Barnett, chairman of Evancho’s home label at Columbia Records.
Still basking in the joy of her record-setting sales, Young Jackie is already busy rehearsing for her next performance. Evancho will sing live at the annual New York City Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Rockefeller Center on Nov. 30.
