Jennifer Grey is having “the time of her life” after dancing her way to victory and taking home the coveted Mirrorball Trophy during Tuesday night’s 11th season finale of Dancing With The Stars.
“I didn’t think I was going to compete tonight and I’m really glad I did,” the Dirty Dancing actress tearfully said upon learning her fate.
Grey injured her knee and suffered a slipped disc during the course of the competition.
Kyle Massey and partner Lacey Schwimmer were crowned first runners-up. Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas — a source of contention for many DWTS fans — finished in third place. The 20-year-old daughter of ex-Alaska governor Sarah Palin alluded to the controversy over how she advanced through competition week after week despite consistently earning the lowest scores from judges.
“Going out there and winning this would mean a lot,” Bristol said. “It would be like a big middle finger to all the people out there that hate my mom and hate me.”
Tuesday’s finale also featured Christina Aguilera performing a tune from her first motion picture — movie musical Burlesque — and her 2002 hit “Beautiful,” which former Dancing hoofer David Hasselhoff quite possibly topped with his own singing performance….dressed in a Baywatch jacket and surrounded by dancers in swimsuits!
Jennifer’s victory also marked a special achievement for her pro partner Derek Hough, who became the first DWTS pro to nab three mirrorball trophies: Derek also won the competition in Season 10 with Nicole Scherzinger and Season 7 alongside now co-host Brooke Burke.
