Former JetBlue flight attendant Steven Slater — who gained notoriety after abandoning his job via emergency slide because he was fed up with rude passengers — has a new gig: Bustin’ rhymes for all to hear!
It’s all a part of a new endorsement deal with a company called Toktumi — manufacturers of Line 2, a cell phone app that provides in-flight texting ability on airplanes that have Wi-Fi.
“Now I’m pimping Line 2…/And the killer app it is…/My legal fees are paid…/By the .com biz,” Slater raps in a newly-released commercial for the brand.
Slater will be the spokesperson and a jude for Toktumi’s Mile High Text Club Contest, which celebrates Line2′s in-flight texting capability on Wi-Fi-equipped airplanes. The competition invites travelers to text their most outrageous flight stories to 222-222-2222 to win prizes such as iPod touches, free Line2 service and a weekend holiday shopping trip for two to New York.
“In order to spread the word that Line2 allows airline passengers to text from the sky, we hired one of the most famous guys in the airline business today, Steven Slater,” Peter Sisson, founder and chief executive officer of Toktumi, said in a statement Monday. “After talking with Steven, I realized that despite his dramatic approach — which he regrets — he was making a statement about the need to return civility and common courtesy to flying. He’s a perfect judge for a contest concerning the current state of air travel.”
The contest runs through Dec. 3.
