Trouble in Rock Land….again.

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has a bone to pick with crooner Steven Tyler. The “Dream On” legend is one of at least five stars linked to a judging role on American Idol.

Just this week, Tyler was quoted telling fans at a Vegas party that his future plans included “recording an album and (I’m) probably going to be a judge on ‘American Idol…’ I’m doing it. What do you think? I’m doing it.”

He is set to replace departing pundits Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres, but Tyler’s new gig has infuriated his bandmates, who are criticizing the star for not sharing his Idol secret with them before the news snatched headlines on the blogosphere last week.

“I found out on the internet like the rest of the world… I mean, this is no small thing,” Perry told The Boston Herald this week. “I mean, after working with me for 40 years, he couldn’t tell me about this… Why so secretive? We’re told it’s a done deal. If Steven is committed to a TV show, that kind of affects the rest of us. We’d like to plan our lives, ya know?”

This is just the latest in a series of spats between Steven and Joe. The 40-year-old rock band recently started touring again after Tyler finished a stint in rehab and settled his differences with Perry, the band’s co-founder. In 2009, the two sparred when Tyler unexpectedly quit the band after falling off stage in Arizona. The rockers decided to audition for a new singer so they could continue plans for a tour and a new album, but Tyler’s lawyers blocked the move.

He later rejoined Aerosmith.
